Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Kenneth Minimah, on Monday, assured that the Armed Forces were on the verge of victory against the Boko Haram insurgents.

He said never again would any of the country’s territories be under the control of the insurgents.

Speaking while declaring open the 2015 first quarter Chief of Army Staff conference, Lieutenant-General Minimah disclosed that the army, with the support of sister services, had continued to record strings of successes against the terrorists, who had laid siege to a number of cities, towns and villages in some of the states.

He stated that the achievements would not have been possible without the sacrifice, commitment and devotion of the gallant troops, some of whom he noted paid the supreme sacrifice in the process.

The army chief expressed appreciation to all citizens, who had stood by the military, particularly in the last one year.

He said: “We are already there, we are at the verge of the promised land. The challenges we are faced with have again brought to fore the strength, perseverance, long-suffering and resilience of the Nigerian nation and its people.

“Despite some setbacks we suffered in the course of our operations, the good people of this country never wavered but consistently identified with us.

“They are understandably frustrated when we failed to perform to expectation, but are always quick to show their support and appreciation for our successes. It is from them we continued to draw inspiration.

“I urge all officers and soldiers to continue to uphold the Nigerian Army’s values of loyalty, courage, professionalism, discipline, respect and sacrifice.

“We are going to redouble our efforts and make sure that never again would Nigeria lose any territory. Nigerians must identify with us and you know the Nigerian society is such that if you are not doing well, they will come out and register their disaffection.”
