Yoruba leaders and interests groups in the South-West would meet in Lagos on Thursday next week for the grand finale of the post-confab summit series convened by the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Ondo State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade.
Groups expected at the summit include the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, the Yoruba Council of Elders, Oodua People’s Congress, Yoruba Youth Movements, among others.
Mimiko was quoted in the statement as saying that the Yoruba were canvassing for the implementation of the resolutions of the 2014 National Conference because it would guarantee a return to a system that promotes accountability and good governance.
The governor said, “For us Yoruba, no system is potent enough to bring out the best in us as true federalism, a re-structured Nigeria where power is devolved and a land where our people would have power over the resources at their backyards.”
The first post-confab summit was held in Akure while the second edition was held at the Premier hotel Ibadan.
Youths in the South-West also met in Akure last Thursday to deliberate on their roles in the implementation of the report of the 2014 National Conference.
