The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Suleiman Abba, has assured policemen yet to be paid promotion arrears to exercise patience as this will soon be addressed.

A group of policemen had threatened to embark on industrial actions to protest the non-payment of their promotion arrears, amongst, other issues.

Speaking in an interview with Saturday Tribune on Friday, the Force Public Relations Officer, Emmanuel Ojukwu, warned officers against this action, saying it is  against the law and carries stiff penalties.

He assured that the delay would soon be addressed, stressing that this remained priority in the agenda of the police high command.

“We got information from the media that a group of policemen are not happy with the delayed payment of their promotion arrears but we are working on that. It is improper for any policeman to embark on strike, it is against the law and they carry very stiff penalties.

“The police high command is putting in efforts to make sure that what is due to everyone is given to him. The Inspector General makes it a priority in the agenda of the police high command.”
