The Director General of Teslim Folarin campaign organization, Hon. Asimiu Alarape today protested the gross intolerance and spate of violence unleashed on the PDP by thugs suspected to be affiliated to the Labour Party, during campaign tour around the state on February 17th, 2015. He made this known in a letter to the police in what he described as ‘unwarranted attack on members of our great party PDP.’

The letter reads in part: ‘This gross intolerance was equally demonstrated by the Labour Party in the state when the party thugs who acted on the instructions of its Gubernatorial candidate 25unleashed undeserved terror on our members in the full glare of the pressmen; security agencies and residence of the area between Oja – Oba and Isale – Ijebu in Ibadan…’

In the attack, he said several members of the PDP were matcheted, phones and other personal effect snatched and vehicles damaged. He however appealed to members of the party to be calm and avoid all forms of violence, while calling on the law enforcement agencies to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book.

In the same vein, the People’s Democratic Party has totally condemned the proposed arrangement of  the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to employ the services of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) for the transportation of electoral materials to the various polling booths across Oyo state.  Responding on behalf of the party, Hon. Asimiu Alarape described it as another conspiracy between INEC and NURTW to rig the elections. He said everybody, except the INEC chief, knows that the NURTW in the state is an appendage of the All Progressive Alliance (APC) and that they work together hands in gloves. This he said made them partisan and therefore renders the proposed plan null and void.

While wondering for what use INEC needs 27,000 buses for the 33 local government areas and less than 5000 polling booths in the state, he called on the state INEC chairman to propose alternative source of transportation that would guarantee the safety of electoral materials and results during elections. He also urged general public and the security agencies to be red alert of the big conspiracy to rig the elections.
