The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Oyo State, Mr Seyi Makinde, has said that he is in politics to rescue the state from under-development.
He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Sunday, in Ibadan, that he remains committed to taking the state to greater heights.
Makinde, who said that the state needed fresh ideas, lamented the slow pace of development in the state.
“The state needs fresh ideas which I am very prepared to offer. The former governors and the present have tried their best but it is not enough,” he said.
He said that if elected, he would inaugurate an Economic Advisory Committee comprising of intellectuals and professionals from across the council areas of the state.
Makinde said that the committee would be vested with the responsibility of mapping out strategies for developing the state’s economy.
He also said that he would create agro-related jobs in the short, medium and long term.
Makinde faulted the job openings created by the present government under the Oyo Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES), saying there was no future prospects for the cadets.
