Gov. Abiola Ajimobi
An appeal has gone to the Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi to re-visit his decision that led to the dismissal of about 400 workers from the state civil service in June 2012.
The appeal was made in a letter jointly signed by Mr Iyanda Abayomi and Mrs G.B.Ogunrinu on behalf of ‘Y’ Group of Workers in Oyo State Civil Service, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune, on Wednesday.
The letter read: “The state Civil Service Commission had earlier complied with, and implemented the directives of the immediate past governor, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, through the Executive Council Conclusion II, with reference number C1287 dated February 2009, to reinstate some category of workers back to service, having discovered that they were employed with genuine certificates, which we were part of.
“We were reinstated with effect from March 1, 2009, having being agreed in writing that the period of 18 months we were on suspension should be regarded as leave-without-pay after they have reduced our salary grade level from where we are before.
“Three years after, Senator Abiola Ajimobi-led administration revisited the already concluded project of salary and staff audit in the state, which was conducted by Captain Consulting Limited. The Civil Service Commission was, therefore, directed to issue us a dismissal letter dated June 28, 2012.
“We’ve made a protest to the state governor in which he told us that he had considered our plight and had directed the state Civil Service Commission to reinstate our category of wrongly dismissed workers back to the state civil service.”
The group stated further that efforts made to meet the state governor on the issue for final settlement and the sacked workers’ reinstatement proved abortive.
They, however, appealed to Governor Ajimobi to renege on his decision and allow them to go back to work.
