Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene over what he described as escalating violence in the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election, warning that residents would not accept any attempt to manipulate the outcome of the poll.

Speaking on the growing tension in the state, Adeleke alleged that innocent people were being killed and urged the President to ensure peace and credible elections.

“President Bola Tinubu, something is happening in Osun State that you need to know. Our people are being killed, and as our father, we are appealing to you. We will not accept any attempt to rig this election,” the governor said.

He further reminded the President that his administration had publicly endorsed Tinubu's re-election bid in 2027, questioning why violence was allegedly being allowed to persist.

“Mr President, I am passing this message directly to you. We have publicly endorsed you for the 2027 presidential election. What more do you want from us? Why then are our people being killed?” Adeleke asked.

The governor also accused the Nigeria Police Force of failing to maintain neutrality, alleging that officers had become compromised and were targeting innocent citizens instead of tackling criminal activities.

“The police have been compromised. They should concentrate on tackling the kidnappers and other criminals troubling your administration instead of intimidating innocent people,” he alleged.

Adeleke's remarks come amid heightened political tension in Osun State as political parties intensify campaigns ahead of the August 15 governorship election. The governor called on the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure a peaceful, free and fair electoral process.
