A Professor of Political Economy, Pat Utomi, has called on young Nigerians involved in political thuggery to rethink their involvement in activities allegedly sponsored by politicians, warning them against being used as instruments of violence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Utomi, in a post on his verified X handle on Saturday, criticised politicians who allegedly recruit young people for disruptive activities in their communities while offering them little financial reward.

He challenged the youths to consider their future and question whether they would still want to be involved in political thuggery when they attain the age of 50.

"To every young man doing agbero (thuggery) work for corrupt politicians, I want you to sit down and ask yourself an important question, Is this what you will still be doing at 50? Are your parents proud of what you are doing?

"These corrupt politicians will feed you crumbs while continuing to profit from the chaos they are creating in your neighbourhoods," he wrote

The political economist also urged young Nigerians not to allow politicians to manipulate them into perpetrating violence during the 2027 electoral cycle.

He stressed that young people deserved better opportunities and should resist being used to advance the political interests of individuals at the expense of their future.

"Come 2027, please do not allow yourself to become an instrument of destruction in these men's hands. You deserve better," Utomi warned.
