Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Yobe State, Mohammed Gadaka, has urged married women to seek divorce if their husbands prevent them from voting for the ruling party.
Gadaka made the statement while speaking at a campaign rally, where he reportedly told women to resist any attempt by their husbands to dictate their choice of political party.
He further promised to pay the dowry of any married woman who chooses to leave her marriage because her husband would not allow her to vote for the APC.
“If your husband won’t allow you to vote for APC, stand up to him and seek a divorce. If you leave the marriage, I will pay your dowry and marry you,” he said.
The remark has generated attention as political parties intensify mobilisation and campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.
