Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to sustain his commitment to good governance and continue delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of the state.

Obasanjo gave the charge on Sunday night during a surprise congratulatory visit to Adeleke at his country home in Ede, following the governor’s victory in Saturday’s governorship election.

The former president prayed for continued success in Adeleke’s second term and urged him to remain focused on addressing the needs of the people.

“Continue to deliver good governance. Continue to meet the needs of your people,” Obasanjo told the governor.

Adeleke, who expressed surprise and appreciation for the visit, thanked God and the people of Osun State for his victory, pledging to remain a dedicated servant of the people.

“Baba, I thank you for this surprise visit. I promise never to disappoint God, the Osun people and all lovers of democracy who made our victory possible,” the governor told the former president.

Obasanjo was accompanied by his ally, Otunba Oyewole Fasawe, and was received by Adeleke amid dancing and songs of praise in celebration of the election outcome.

The state’s Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, also joined Adeleke in receiving the former president.

Adeleke, who was first elected governor of Osun State in 2022, secured a fresh four-year mandate on Saturday under the Accord Party platform, which he joined from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in December 2025.

He polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 444,815 votes. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 17,180 votes.

The governor’s re-election triggered celebrations across Osun State, with supporters taking to the streets after he was declared winner of the keenly contested election.
