The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that prospective corps members (PCMs) must obtain clearance from the National Electronic Registration Database (NERD) before they can be mobilised for the mandatory national service programme.

The directive, issued as preparations intensify for the next orientation exercise, warns that any prospective corps member without NERD clearance will not be eligible for mobilisation.

In a public notice shared on its official X account on Monday, the NYSC urged all eligible graduates to complete the clearance process early to avoid delays.

“This is to inform PCMs (Prospective Corps Members) that without NERD clearance, no NYSC. Get your NERD clearance early. Avoid delays in your mobilisation,” the scheme stated.

Reinforcing the directive, the NYSC added: “NERD clearance is compulsory for all PCMs. No NERD clearance, No NYSC!!!”

Although the scheme did not provide further details on how the clearance process will be carried out, the announcement signals a tighter verification process ahead of the mobilisation of the next batch of corps members.

The advisory comes shortly after the NYSC announced the commencement of mobilisation activities for the 2026 Batch 'B' service year, urging tertiary institutions and eligible graduates to complete all required documentation ahead of the orientation exercise.

It also follows a recent safety advisory in which the scheme warned prospective corps members against travelling to orientation camps at night. The NYSC advised them to break their journeys where necessary and spend the night in safe locations or designated military and other security formations where available, rather than continue travelling after dark.

The renewed directives underscore the NYSC's commitment to strengthening the integrity of its mobilisation process while prioritising the safety of prospective corps members amid persistent security concerns on Nigeria's highways.

As mobilisation activities gather momentum, prospective corps members are expected to complete all registration and verification requirements, including the now mandatory NERD clearance, before proceeding to their orientation camps.
