The Federal Government has announced plans to gradually phase out subsidy payments in Nigeria's power sector beginning in 2027.
Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, disclosed this on Friday during a media interactive session while addressing concerns over the growing debt in the electricity sector.
According to the minister, the subsidy removal will be implemented in phases, assuring Nigerians that the process will not deny citizens the benefits currently enjoyed under the existing system.
Tegbe also clarified that the government has no immediate plans to increase electricity tariffs, despite the planned subsidy phase-out.
