The First Lady made the remarks during a press briefing, where she defended the administration's economic intervention strategies. Mrs. Tinubu disclosed that the federal government has distributed financial grants to numerous citizens as part of ongoing measures to alleviate poverty and drive grassroots economic empowerment.

However, the suggestions sparked a swift backlash from DJ Switch, who rose to global prominence for her live-streaming activism during the 2020 #EndSARS protests against police brutality.

The activist argued that the First Lady's economic vision remains outdated and limiting. DJ Switch emphasized that while forward-thinking nations are aggressively equipping their citizens with digital skills for a technologically advancing world, Nigeria's leadership should not be steering its population toward low-yield subsistence trading.
