Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has visited the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ikoyi as investigations continue into allegations of financial misappropriation involving about ₦1.3 trillion.
Although the anti-graft agency has not issued an official statement on the visit, sources within the commission disclosed that Okowa is being investigated over the alleged diversion of 13 percent derivation funds allocated to Delta State from the Federation Account between 2015 and 2023, when he served as governor.
The former governor was earlier arrested and interrogated by EFCC operatives in November 2024 at the commission’s Port Harcourt zonal office over the same allegations.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Okowa’s latest visit to the Lagos office was connected to a request for the release of his international passport to enable him travel abroad for medical treatment.
As of the time of filing this report, it remained unclear whether the EFCC had granted the request. The investigation is still ongoing, while the commission has yet to provide an official update on the outcome of the visit or the status of the case against the former governor.
