Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has condemned the reported attack on the chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government Area of Osun State, Asimiyu Ajibola, also known as Baba Isila, calling for peaceful political engagement and adherence to democratic principles.
Davido reacted on Thursday following reports that suspected gunmen attacked Ajibola and his associates on Wednesday night in Osogbo, leaving the politician injured.
According to information shared by the singer on his X account, the incident occurred at about 9:50 p.m. near the Osogbo Community Bank axis in the MDS area of the state capital. The attackers were said to have opened fire on a blue Toyota Corolla conveying Ajibola and his associates.
The shooting reportedly sparked panic among residents of the area, while the Accord Party chieftain was rushed to a teaching hospital for medical treatment.
Condemning the attack, Davido stressed that political differences should never degenerate into violence or threaten public safety.
“Regardless of our political differences, everyone must make sure they are not contributing to insecurity in our nation,” he wrote.
“The attack on the Chairman of the Accord Party in Osogbo Local Government by political hoodlums must be condemned and rejected by all.”
The award-winning singer further urged political actors to embrace democratic processes and allow electoral contests to be decided through the ballot box rather than violence.
“If APC is sure they are popular, let’s settle this with ballot papers, not guns or weapons,” he stated.
The incident comes amid growing political activities ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election, in which Governor Ademola Adeleke, Davido’s uncle, is widely expected to seek a second term in office.
