Seven members of the house of representatives have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The notices of defection were read by Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house of representatives, , during Tuesday’s plenary.
Abbas said the letters bore various dates in May.
The lawmakers are Adebayo Adepoju, Ibarapa north federal constituency; Adedeji Olajide, Ibadan north-west/Ibadan federal constituency; Makanjuola Ojo, Ogooluwa/Surulere federal constituency; Oyeshina Oyedeji, Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa federal constituency; Folajimi Oyekunle, Ibadan north federal constituency; Abass Adigun, Ibadan north-east/south-east federal constituency — all in Oyo state.
Auwalu Gwalabe, the Katagum federal constituency of Bauchi, also moved from the PDP to the APM.
Alex Egbona, representing Abi/Yakurr federal constituency of Cross River state, defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the PDP, while Shehu Dalhatu, representing Faskari/Kankara/Sabuwa federal constituency of Katsina state, switched from the APC to the PDP.
Esosa Iyawe, who represents Oredo federal constituency of Edo state, left the APC for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Similarly, Jonathan Gbefwi, representing Keffi/Karu/Kokona federal constituency of Nasarawa state, defected from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the Labour Party (LP).
Etanabene Benedict, representing Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie federal constituency of Delta state, moved from the Labour Party to the PDP.
The green chamber has recorded a wave of defections since the beginning of the year, ahead of the 2027 general election.
