The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election, Atiku Abubakar, on Thursday met with his closest rival in the party’s recently concluded presidential primary, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi.

Atiku emerged victorious in the ADC primary election, defeating Amaechi and other contenders to secure the party’s presidential ticket.

Amaechi had earlier rejected the outcome of the primary before the official declaration of results, alleging that the process was marred by irregularities.

Despite the dispute, Atiku, during his acceptance speech, extended an olive branch to Amaechi and other aggrieved members of the party, urging them to unite and work together ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Details of Thursday’s meeting remain unclear as neither Atiku nor Amaechi has addressed the media regarding the outcome of their discussions.

However, political observers believe the meeting is part of Atiku’s broader reconciliation efforts aimed at consolidating support within the ADC and strengthening party unity ahead of the 2027 polls.
