The Federal Government has cautioned Nigerians against travelling outside the country without valid passports, visas, and other approved travel documents, warning that such actions violate immigration laws and expose travellers to significant risks.

In a public advisory issued on Monday via X, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), DCI AS Akinlabi, stressed that all international travel must comply with established immigration procedures.

According to the NIS, attempting to bypass official channels or using unauthorised border routes is illegal and could attract serious consequences.

The agency also expressed concern over the increasing activities of fraudulent migration networks that target unsuspecting Nigerians, especially youths, with false promises of employment, education, and improved living conditions abroad.

“These schemes often result in forced labour, human trafficking, and other forms of exploitation,” the statement said, noting that legitimate travel processes do not circumvent approved immigration procedures or official border posts.

The service urged Nigerians to verify all travel and recruitment offers through official channels and avoid dealing with unregistered agents promoting irregular migration.

It further advised members of the public to report suspicious migration-related activities to the nearest Nigeria Immigration Service office or relevant security agencies.
