The burial rites for Adesiyan Adegboye, one of the teachers killed during the recent coordinated attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, commenced on Friday at Ayegun Baptist Church, Ogbomoso.

Adegboye, 49, was killed during last Friday’s armed invasion of three schools in the area and is expected to be interred later today at his residence in the Owolake area of Ogbomoso.

Born on December 11, 1976, the deceased was among victims of the attack on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, which occurred around 9:30 a.m. when armed bandits reportedly stormed the communities, abducting teachers and pupils.

According to *The PUNCH*, the coordinated assaults led to the abduction of several students and staff across the affected schools in Oriire LGA.

In response to the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, visited the affected communities on Saturday and ordered the deployment of additional detectives from the Force Headquarters in Abuja to support ongoing rescue operations in collaboration with other security agencies. The move, police authorities said, was aimed at ensuring the safe recovery of the abducted victims.

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, had earlier confirmed that seven students were abducted from Community Secondary School, while 18 pupils and seven teachers were taken from First Baptist Primary and Nursery School. He also confirmed that one person was killed during the attack.

The incident has since sparked widespread concern across Ogbomoso and surrounding communities, with many parents withdrawing their children from schools over fears of further attacks. Some schools were also temporarily shut down following unverified reports of bandit infiltration in the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, an allegation the institution later denied.

Security operations and rescue efforts are ongoing.
