Three major political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Alliance for Democracy (AD) have presented their manifestoes to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), calling on Nigerian workers to vote for their respective parties during the 2015 general election.

The parties were the only three parties that attended the interactive session out of the 14 political parties invited.

The party representatives, presidential candidate of the Alliance for Democracy, Dr Rafiu Salawu; Dr Kachi Anonju (PDP) and the deputy director, policy of the APC, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, presented their manifestoes to the workers.

Dr Salawu said his party, the AD, would provide 70 million jobs and also ensure the establishment of 1,000 industries.

The representative of the PDP, Dr Anonju said the PDP was committed to ensuring reforms in the public service.

“We are the party demanding that those who do not have certificates should not swear affidavits. We are the party demanding that people should not cheat, come with certificates that are fraudulent,” he said.

The deputy director, policy of the APC, Mallam Abdullahi said the party was concerned with blocking leakages which fuelled corruption and concentrated the wealth of the nation in the hands of a few.

Mallam Abdullahi said the country could afford to pay competitive salaries to its workers, adding that the APC had already worked out the mathematics to provide adequate social welfare.

“We would not resort to personal attacks because that does not put food on the table,” Abdullahi said.

The political debate was organised by the NLC and its civil society allies for the political parties on the 2015 general election.

Comd. Peter Ozo-Eson, said the debate is focus on public Administration in Nigeria.

He said: “As we look to the 2015 general elections, it is necessary for political parties and candidates to tell the working people, voters and citizens in Nigeria how they will address the challenges of public administration in Nigeria.

“They need to show concrete strategies and plans for improved policy and planning co-ordination, improved human resource management structures, systems and skills and improved budget transparency, consultation, oversight and credibility.”
