President Goodluck Jonathan
Nigerians living in the United States (US) have insisted that President Goodluck Jonathan deserves to be re-elected for another term in office in the forthcoming presidential election.
They described Jonathan as a listening president and expressed belief in his leadership qualities.
Regional coordinator of the Goodluck Support Group, Dr Stella Alhassan, told the Nigerian Tribune from Houston, Texas, at the weekend, that members of the group were working round the clock to sensitise Nigerians both at home and abroad on the need to vote for the president in the election.
She observed that Nigerians in the Diaspora were impressed that the Jonathan-led administration had fixed most of the bad federal roads, constructed schools for education of almajiris and diversified the country’s economy.
The regional coordinator expressed satisfaction with the giant strides already recorded in the Agricultural sector, with the empowerment of farmers.
According to her, Nigerians in the US were excited that the president had been able to drive numerous empowerment schemes for women and had offered them improved recognition and appointment.
She said: “We in the USA are giving our support to President Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in this election because we believe in the president’s leadership qualities and we are pooling our time, efforts and resources to ensure that he succeeds in his avowed determination to deliver high-value dividends of democracy to the people of Nigeria.
“We have already sent people down home who are going from door to door in the villages and towns mobilising residents to come out and vote for President Jonathan.’’
“Those people are also enlightening the electorates about the achievements of this administration
“One thing is that we will not rest on our oars until this president is re-elected. Mind you, we are coming back en-masse to vote for him
“What we are just doing is for Mr. President to secure yet another tenure through massive vote. I am sure he, himself, cannot believe the level of sacrifice we are making at this time
“It is even in light of that that I am using this opportunity to ask Mr. President to visit Nigerians in Houston.
“We are more than eager to showcase to the president all what we are doing for him and it is our conviction that all of these efforts, coupled with those of our home-based colleagues, will result in resounding electoral victory for our dear President Jonathan.”
