Dr. Omo Ekeneam (MBBS, FWACS, MPA) has officially assumed office as the 5th Medical Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Asaba, following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The formal transition took place today at the Federal Ministry of Health Headquarters in Abuja, where the Honorable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Adekunle Salako, presented Dr. Ekeneam with his Instruments of Office.
He expressed his appreciation to the Honorable Minister for recommending him for the position, which was graciously approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Describing the support of the Ministry as a "wonderful one," Dr. Ekeneam pledged his total commitment to the " _Renewed Hope"_ agenda. “Our focus aligns with the ministry’s goals of improving health outcomes, the healthcare value chain, and health security for all Nigerians,” he said.
Furthermore, he pledged that he will continue to support the federal government and the state government for the overall advancement of the health sector. He noted that collaborative efforts between all tiers of government are essential to ensuring that the citizens of Delta State and Nigeria at large receive the best possible medical care.
Underlining his administration’s emphasis on transparency and patient-centered care, Dr. Ekeneam noted that the management of FMC Asaba welcomes feedback from patients, stakeholders, and the media. He maintained that open communication is vital to improving service quality and ensuring the hospital remains accountable to the community it serves.
The appointment of Dr. Ekeneam, a seasoned surgeon and administrator, is a strategic move to strengthen the leadership of the tertiary health institution. By receiving the official mandate today at the Minister’s Conference Room, he begins a new era for FMC Asaba, with a clear charge to innovate and expand the medical services available to the region.
The ceremony, held live at the Federal Secretariat, was attended by top government officials and stakeholders. Dr. Ekeneam’s dual expertise as a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) is expected to be instrumental in driving both clinical excellence and administrative efficiency at the center.
He assured that FMC Asaba will continue to prioritise quality healthcare delivery, transparency, and sustainable infrastructure, positioning the hospital as a model of efficient healthcare management within Nigeria’s public health system.
