The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has debunked reports that the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been postponed, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the examination body said the purported press release circulating among candidates and the general public did not originate from the board and should be disregarded.
“Our attention has been drawn to a malicious press release claiming that the 2026 UTME has been postponed. This is to inform the public, particularly candidates that the statement is fake and did not emanate from us. All activities concerning the 2026 UTME will proceed as scheduled,” the statement read.
JAMB reaffirmed that the examination will take place as earlier announced, from Thursday, April 16, to Saturday, April 25, 2026.
The clarification comes in the wake of the UTME mock examination held on March 28, which experienced technical challenges in several Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the country.
According to the board, 224,597 candidates registered for the mock exercise, while 152,586 successfully sat for the test across 989 centres nationwide. It added that more than 20 centres affected by technical issues have since been delisted due to inadequate infrastructure.
JAMB also cautioned candidates against engaging with fraudulent individuals or groups, particularly on social media platforms, who claim to offer assistance in inflating examination scores.
The board stressed that such claims are illegal and warned that any candidate found participating in such activities risks having their registration cancelled or their results withheld.
