The Government of Canada has announced an upward review of application fees for permanent residence and citizenship, affecting Nigerians and other foreign nationals seeking to live in the country.
The new fee structure, published by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, will take effect on April 30, 2026. According to the agency, the adjustment is part of a routine update aimed at maintaining efficient and reliable immigration services while keeping pace with inflation.
In a statement, the agency noted that all permanent residence applications received on or after the effective date will be subject to the revised fees.
Under the new structure, the Right of Permanent Residence Fee will increase by $25, rising from $575 to $600. The Provincial Nominee Programme will see a $40 increase, from $950 to $990, while Business Class applications will rise by $85, from $1,810 to $1,895.
Similarly, Family Class application fees will increase from $545 to $570, while fees for Protected Persons will move from $635 to $660. Applications under Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds or Public Policy Measures will also increase by $25, from $635 to $660. Permit Holder fees will rise from $375 to $390.
In addition, the Right of Citizenship Fee has already been adjusted, increasing from $119.75 to $123, representing an approximate 2.7 per cent rise effective March 31, 2026.
The agency explained that, in line with the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations, permanent residence fees are reviewed every two years to offset programme costs and respond to increasing demand for immigration services.
The development underscores Canada’s continued efforts to balance service delivery with the growing number of applicants seeking entry into the country.
