The government of Ghana has announced an emergency evacuation plan for its nationals residing in Qatar as security concerns intensify across the Middle East amid the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
According to a statement issued on March 15, 2026, by the Embassy of the Republic of Ghana in Qatar, the evacuation exercise is aimed at safeguarding Ghanaian citizens in the Gulf nation as regional tensions continue to escalate.
The embassy urged Ghanaian nationals in Qatar who wish to return home under the arrangement to confirm their interest by submitting the biodata pages of their passports via email to the mission to facilitate the evacuation process.
“The Government of the Republic of Ghana has decided to undertake an emergency evacuation exercise in Qatar in the wake of the heightened security situation in the region,” the statement said.
The diplomatic mission also clarified that the evacuation plan will be conducted strictly on a one-way basis, allowing citizens to travel only from Qatar to Ghana.
“It is noted that this arrangement is strictly a one-way evacuation exercise to Ghana. Accordingly, Ghanaians in Qatar who wish to be evacuated immediately from Qatar to Ghana are kindly requested to reconfirm their interest by submitting the biodata pages of their passports by email,” the embassy added.
The decision follows rising tensions across the Middle East linked to the conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States, a development that has heightened security concerns for foreign nationals in the region.
Ghana’s move underscores the government’s commitment to protecting its citizens abroad during periods of international instability and reflects a proactive approach to ensuring the safety of its nationals in potentially volatile environments.
