Former Sokoto State governor and senator representing Sokoto South, Aminu Tambuwal, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent internal crises and divisions within the party.

Tambuwal disclosed his decision in a resignation letter dated March 11 and addressed to the PDP ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri ward of Sokoto State. In the letter, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives said the ongoing conflicts and leadership disagreements within the party had made it increasingly difficult for him to remain an active member.

According to him, the divisions within the PDP at various levels have weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party.

Tambuwal also announced that he would be joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that the move followed deep reflection and extensive consultations with political associates and stakeholders.

“The leadership disagreements and divisions within the party at various levels have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my active participation and commitment as a member,” he wrote. “The ongoing conflicts have, unfortunately, weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party.”

Despite his exit, Tambuwal expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities it provided him to serve Nigeria in several capacities.

He explained that his decision was guided by the belief that Nigeria needs a stronger political platform founded on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to serving the country and upholding the ideals of democracy, justice, and national unity.
