Prominent Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has claimed that the Federal Government is aware of the identities and locations of terrorists operating across the country.
Gumi made the statement during an interview with DRTV while responding to allegations that he maintains close ties with terrorists and bandits and often advocates on their behalf.
The cleric dismissed the insinuations, explaining that his engagements with armed groups are carried out with the knowledge and involvement of security agencies.
According to him, government authorities are fully aware of the individuals involved in terrorist activities and where they are based.
“The government knows every terrorist by name and location. I don’t go alone to negotiate — I go with the police, military and other security agencies,” Gumi said.
He further stated that his visits to bandits’ hideouts are sometimes coordinated with traditional leaders.
“I would go to the Emirs. In fact, when we went to one forest, I even went with women into the bush,” he added.
Gumi has previously been involved in dialogue efforts with armed bandit groups in parts of northern Nigeria, a role that has continued to generate public debate and criticism.
