The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the postponement of the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026.
CAF confirmed the decision on Thursday, stating that the tournament, which was initially scheduled to take place from March 17 to April 3, 2026, will now be held from July 25 to August 16, 2026.
Morocco had earlier been awarded the hosting rights for the competition in October 2024.
According to CAF, the decision to reschedule the tournament followed consultations with key partners, including FIFA, as well as other stakeholders.
The African football governing body explained that the adjustment in dates became necessary due to unforeseen circumstances and to ensure the successful organisation of the competition.
Despite the postponement, CAF noted that preparations for the tournament are ongoing and expressed confidence that the event will be successfully staged.
The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations remains Africa’s premier women’s football tournament, bringing together the continent’s top national teams to compete for the continental title.
