The Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), Ibadan Branch, on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, hosted its End-of-Year Luncheon at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan.

The event, tagged “Chic, Charming and Cheerful,” brought together women scientists across disciplines to celebrate achievements, strengthen bonds, and reflect on the year’s journey. The luncheon provided a relaxed and inspiring space for networking, fellowship, and renewal after a demanding year of academic and professional engagements.

Addressing participants, the OWSD Ibadan Coordinator, Prof. Aina O. Adeogun, FAS, described the gathering as a moment to appreciate unity and self-care among women in science.

“This is an opportunity to relax, look back on what we have achieved, and thank God for His grace. As women, we juggle many responsibilities and often forget to care for ourselves. Today, we celebrate ourselves,” she said.

Prof. Adeogun also highlighted the branch’s activities during the year, including capacity-building programmes, mentorship initiatives, secondary school outreach, and collaborative research efforts aimed at strengthening women’s participation in science.

The luncheon attracted several accomplished academics and researchers, including Prof. Aderonke Baiyeroju; Dr. Mercy Iroaganachi; Prof. Janice Olawoye; Prof. Oyedunni Arulogun; Prof. Olufunke Eunice Ola-Davies; and Dr. Folusho Agunlana, among others.

Participants enjoyed lively interactions, networking, music, dancing, and fine cuisine, with many describing the event as refreshing and emotionally uplifting.

One attendee noted that the luncheon provided “a sense of belonging and support,” while another emphasized that OWSD’s strength lies in collaboration and idea-sharing that impacts institutions and society.

Members also commended the dedication of the coordinators and planning committees, praising Prof. Adeogun’s energetic leadership and commitment to the growth of the organization.

The event reaffirmed OWSD Ibadan’s commitment to empowering women in science, enhancing the visibility of female researchers, and inspiring future generations to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and innovation.
