In view of the forthcoming general elections, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Suleiman Abba, has ordered the constitution of a Special Investigative Team, to be headed by the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Force Legal/Prosecution Department, to investigate offences emanating from the elections.

Abba, who disclosed this during the conference he recently held with CPs and officers above that rank in Abuja, reiterated the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure free, fair, credible and violence-free elections as well as adequate security of lives and property before, during and after the elections.

The Police High Command, in a release signed by the Force spokesperson, Emmanuel Ojukwu, appealed to Nigerians for calm and orderliness at the poll while reassuring them of the Force’s preparedness to perform its constitutional and statutory responsibilities of providing adequate security for the nation and the entire citizenry.

The Force, therefore, enjoined politicians, stakeholders and other political actors to play the game according to the rule.

Meanwhile, the Police Service Commission has approved the immediate redeployment of 16 Commissioners of Police.

The redeployment, according to the Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, is in line with the Commission’s drive to reposition the Force for optimal performance.
