The Sickle Cell Hope Alive Foundation (SCHAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to reducing the burden of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in Nigeria as it hosted its 2025 Sickle Cell Awareness Program on Wednesday, 24th September, at the Apex Event Center, Agodi Gate, Ibadan.

Themed “Sickle Cell Disease Prevention: Youths as a Vehicle of Change," the event gathered hundreds of students, corps members, health trainees, warriors, caregivers, and dignitaries from the medical and academic community.

Speaking at the event, SCHAF Founder, Prof. Adeyinka Falusi, emphasized the urgent need for consistent education and youth engagement in combating SCD.

“Young people are the future, and they must be empowered with the right knowledge to break the cycle of Sickle Cell Disease,” she said. “Prevention begins with awareness, and SCHAF will continue to take this message into schools, communities, and every corner where it is needed.”

The program featured an inter-school oratory contest following weeks of SCD training using the SCHAF Sickle Cell Disease Handbook 1. Participants, including over 240 secondary school students and 300 corps members, also benefited from product support and routine medication donations from partners and the foundation.

SCHAF continues its drive to expand SCD education across Oyo State and beyond, ensuring that every youth becomes a champion for prevention and community health.
