A Nigerian woman, Chisom Okonkwo, 29 who lied against her husband claiming he sexually assaulted their two young daughters has been arraigned in court.

She was arraigned before an Enugu Magistrate Court for allegedly libeling her husband, Ozioma Okonkwo, and providing false information to the police.

According to a charge sheet filed by the Commissioner of Police, the offences allegedly occurred in August 2024 at Adoration Junction, opposite Dan-Legal Hotel, Emene, Enugu State.

The police disclosed that Chisom “defamed the character of one Okonkwo Ozioma ‘m’ by shouting in public that he defiled her two daughters, which exposed him to hatred, contempt, and ridicule, and damaged his reputation.”

The charge sheet cited violations of Section 323, punishable under Section 325 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State, 2004.

Investigations disclosed that Ozioma Okonkwo was arrested in Enugu on October 25, 2025, following Chisom’s allegations of sexual abuse involving their daughters, aged 2 and 5, over a marital dispute. Nevertheless, medical examinations later found no evidence of abuse, leading to his release.

In a second count, the police accused Chisom of giving false information to detectives at the State Intelligence Department (SID), Enugu, on October 27, 2025.

Still on the charge, she deliberately misled police officers by claiming that her husband had sexually abused their daughters, resulting in his arrest and detention. This offence is punishable under Section 154(1)(a) & (b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Vol. II, Revised Laws of Enugu State, 2004.

As of the time of reporting, details regarding Chisom’s plea, bail, or subsequent court proceedings have not been made public.
