Prof. Chinedum Babalola Inducted as Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences

History was made on Saturday, October 25, 2025, as Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola, a distinguished scholar, pharmacist, and researcher, was inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (FAMedSc) — a landmark achievement that further cements her legacy as one of Africa’s most accomplished scientists.

The induction ceremony, held during the 5th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the Academy of Medical Sciences at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja, Lagos, brought together top medical scientists, researchers, and policymakers to honour newly elected Fellows of the Academy for their exceptional contributions to advancing health and biomedical sciences in Nigeria.

Prof. Babalola, African Union laureate and immediate past Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University, Abeokua ,Ogun State , currently serves as a respected don at the University of Ibadan, has blazed remarkable trails in pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenetics, and pharmaceutical quality assurance, disciplines in which her research has transformed drug therapy, clinical outcomes, and public health policy across Africa. Her pioneering studies on antimalarials, antibiotics, and pharmacogenetics in Nigerians, sickle cell patients, and people living with HIV have provided vital insights for precision medicine and informed rational drug use.

Through the Centre for Drug Discovery, Development and Production (CDDDP), which she founded, Prof. Babalola has led groundbreaking work in drug innovation, regulatory science, mentorship, and capacity building, empowering a generation of scientists and pharmacists to pursue excellence in healthcare research.

Speaking during the ceremony, several dignitaries praised Prof. Babalola’s extraordinary impact on science, describing her as “a woman of intellect, integrity, and immense influence whose work continues to bridge the gap between research and practice.”

Her historic induction as the first pharmacist in the Academy’s ranks not only celebrates individual excellence but also marks a defining moment for the pharmacy profession in Nigeria, showcasing the growing influence of pharmaceutical sciences in shaping national and global healthcare systems.

Prof. Babalola’s career continues to stand as a beacon of innovation, leadership, and dedication — inspiring a new generation of researchers to push the frontiers of medical and pharmaceutical discovery.
