Renowned pharmacist, academic, and research trailblazer, Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola, has been formally inducted as a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences (FMedSci) — a recognition of her outstanding contributions to pharmaceutical sciences, healthcare innovation, and academic leadership in Nigeria and across Africa.

The prestigious induction ceremony took place on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the Sheraton Hotels and Towers, Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way, Ikeja, Lagos, where newly elected Fellows were formally admitted into the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Prof. Babalola is celebrated for her pioneering work in pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacogenetics, and pharmaceutical quality assurance, which has transformed drug therapy and research in Africa. Her groundbreaking studies on antimalarials, antibiotics, and pharmacogenetics among Nigerians, sickle-cell patients, and people living with HIV have shaped precision medicine and improved therapeutic outcomes.

Beyond her academic achievements, Prof. Babalola is a mentor, innovator, and reform advocate whose work continues to bridge the gap between scientific research and clinical practice. Through the Centre for Drug Discovery, Development and Production (CDDDP), she has advanced drug discovery, regulatory science, and capacity building, while mentoring young scientists across the continent.

In a goodwill remark during the ceremony, speakers described her as “a woman of intellect, integrity, and impact whose research and leadership continue to elevate Nigeria’s scientific standing globally.”

Her induction into FMedSci further cements her reputation as one of Africa’s most influential voices in pharmaceutical research and higher education — a woman whose career continues to inspire a new generation of healthcare professionals and researchers.
