The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, has secured the conviction of a 30-year-old man, Yusuff Isiaka, on a four-count charge of assault and stealing, following a diligent investigation and prosecution by the Corps.
Isiaka was arraigned before Chief Magistrate O.O. Ogunkanmi at the Chief Magistrate Court, Ibadan, on Charge No. MI/1178C/25, where he was found guilty on all counts and sentenced to a total of 16 years imprisonment.
According to court records, the offences were committed on July 12, 2025, at about 4:05p.m. in Ogunremi Village, Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State. The convict was said to have physically assaulted Mrs. Egbeh Comfort while she was working on her farm, inflicting injuries on her neck before carting away valuables, including cash and a mobile phone.
The items stolen were valued at ₦47,000 and ₦95,000 respectively, offences which contravene and are punishable under Sections 252, 351, 355, 383(1), and 390 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Ogunkanmi sentenced Isiaka to one year imprisonment for assault, three years for assault occasioning harm, and six years each for the two counts of stealing — all to run consecutively.
Reacting to the judgment, the Oyo State Commandant of NSCDC, Augustine Padonu, commended the professionalism and tenacity of the officers who handled the investigation and prosecution, describing the verdict as “a victory for justice and deterrence against violent crimes.”
“This conviction reinforces our commitment to ensuring that offenders face the full weight of the law. The NSCDC in Oyo State remains steadfast in protecting lives, property, and the dignity of every resident,” Padonu stated.
He further warned criminal elements to desist from unlawful activities, noting that the Corps would continue to pursue offenders with precision and integrity.
Padonu also called on residents to support security agencies through the timely sharing of credible information that can help prevent crimes and apprehend offenders. “Security is everyone’s business. When citizens cooperate by reporting suspicious acts, it becomes easier to keep our communities safe,” he added.
The Oyo NSCDC Command reaffirmed that it will continue to uphold its mandate of safeguarding critical national assets, maintaining peace, and ensuring that justice is served without compromise.
