
A journalist, Ojo Peter has been killed by armed robbers, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The journalist was confirmed d3ad on Sunday, September 8, 2025.
According to report, Ojo, a former reporter of Parrot Extra newspaper, was shot by the armed robbers in a daylight attack along the Molete–Oke Ado axis of Ibadan on August 18, 2025.
The news of his death was announced by his colleagues through one of the WhatsApp platforms of members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state.
The incident was initially thought to be health-related until a younger brother of the deceased, Enahoro Peter, clarified that Ojo was attacked for the cross bag he carried.
Enahoro informed journalists that his brother was shot around 2.00 pm on that day.
“On that same day that he was shot, I got a call from one police officer from Orita Challenge that our brother is at their station, but upon getting there I was told he has been shot by a notorious armed robber operating with a motorcycle,” he explained.
“That was how we got to know that he had gone. This is someone that went out in search of daily bread for his family, he was hale and healthy, his life was cut short by the bullet of the armed robber in a broad day light."
Following the attack, police investigation led to the arrest of a suspect, while another reportedly d!ed during a confrontation with operatives.
The spokesperson of the command, CSP Adewale Osifeso, who confirmed the development said the suspects were to a string of robberies in Ibadan.
According to the PPRO, one of the suspects attempted to resist arrest and was fatally injured, while the other was apprehended and taken into custody.
He added that the suspects were also connected to another robbery and shooting incident at Anfani Junction on the same day.
