Captain of the Super Falcons, Rasheedat Ajibade, has disclosed that members of the Nigerian women’s national football team are yet to receive the $100,000 cash reward and other incentives promised by the Federal Government following their victory at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ajibade made the revelation during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo.
When asked if the team had received the promised funds, she responded, “We have not received our money, but hopefully, it would be paid. They have not paid—none of the promises have been fulfilled.”
The Super Falcons clinched their record-extending WAFCON title in Morocco earlier this year, prompting a wave of national celebration.
In response, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hosted the team at the Presidential Villa in July, where he commended the players for their resilience and historic achievement.
During the reception, the President announced that each player would receive $100,000 and a three-bedroom house, in addition to being conferred national honours as Officers of the Order of the Niger (OON).
However, weeks after the announcement, Ajibade’s comments suggest that the promised rewards have yet to materialize.
As of press time, there has been no official response from the Ministry of Sports or the Presidency regarding the delay.
