The 26th Annual National Scientific Conference of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN), tagged 'EDO 2025,' kicked off on a vibrant note on Monday, August 4, 2025. This year's event, themed "Innovations in Pharmaceutical Care Delivery for Equitable Patients' Healthcare," aims to address key issues in pharmacy practice and improve healthcare delivery across the nation.
Among the standout activities on the first day was the Pharmaceutical Outreach and Health Walk, an initiative designed to create massive awareness against substance misuse and drug abuse. Pharmacists and healthcare professionals from across the country showed remarkable dedication as they took to the streets of Edo, engaging with community members and spreading crucial messages about the dangers of substance misuse while promoting responsible medication use.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, with rain showers washing over the area, the dedicated pharmacists of the Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria (AHAPN) showed unwavering determination. There was a palpable sense of enthusiasm and commitment as participants donned their raincoats and carried umbrellas, transforming a cloudy day into a demonstration of resilience and passion for public health.
Banners and placards featuring empowering slogans and informative messages were prominently displayed, igniting conversations about drug abuse prevention while fostering a sense of awareness among the populace.
Pharm. Elechi Oyim, the Chief Host and National Chairman of AHAPN, emphasized the significance of such outreach efforts in his address before the walk commenced. “Today, we stand here not just as pharmacists but as advocates for health and wellbeing. Our mission goes beyond the pharmacy shelves; it involves engaging with our communities to build a healthier future,” Oyim declared. His words resonated deeply with the participants, fueling their commitment to the cause and their determination to impact the community positively.
Attendees at the conference will participate in various sessions throughout the week—featuring thought leaders and experts—covering key topics in pharmaceutical care, innovations in practice, and solutions to enhance healthcare delivery in Nigeria. The theme of the conference underscores the urgent need for equitable access to quality healthcare, which aligns with the outreach goals demonstrated during the health walk.
The health walk concluded with a gathering where health professionals shared stories and experiences, emphasizing the critical role pharmacists play in combating drug abuse and supporting community health initiatives.
