
The Dinner Night held on July 23, 2025, during the 44th Annual International Scientific Conference of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), was a night filled with recognition and celebration of individuals who have significantly contributed to the advancement of the pharmacy profession in Nigeria.
The conference was themed "Technology Integration and Personalized Care: The Future of Community Pharmacy Practice."
This event took place at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Awka, featured an award presentation which served as a platform to honour both living legends and those who have passed, marking their lasting legacy in the industry.
Pharm. (Pa.) Deji Osinoiki, a stalwart in the pharmacy community and past National Chairman of ACPN, was honored with a lifetime achievement award. His consistent attendance at conferences and undeniable impact on the profession earned him this prestigious recognition.
"He is certainly one of our forefathers not just in the ACPN but in the PSN," said Pharm. Olumide Akintayo, highlighting Osinoiki’s enduring passion for pharmacy even at the age of 84. "He remains a dedicated pharmaceutical inspector, and several of his children have followed in his footsteps as pharmacists."
Pharm (Sir.) Albert Obi Ezegbo, another past National Chairman of ACPN, was also recognized for his significant contribution to pharmacy profession. Although he is in the twilight years of his career, his commitment to advancing pharmacy practice and mentoring younger pharmacists remains commendable.
Additionally, the conference presented posthumous awards to several influential figures in the pharmaceutical sector. One such honoree was the Late (Prince) Christopher Obiora Nebe, a vital partner and sponsor of ACPN conferences for decades. His lifelong dedication to advancing community pharmacy underscored his belief in the power of passion, innovation, and service within healthcare.
Another posthumous award was given to Pharm. Jimi Adesanya, who played a significant role in the development of pharmacy in Nigeria. Known for his unwavering love for the profession, he tragically passed while fighting for the advancement of pharmacy.
The Late Professor Dora Nkem Akunyili, renowned for her transformative contributions to the pharmaceutical society, was also posthumously honored. As the former Director General of NAFDAC, her legacy in advocating for public health and safety continues to resonate within the pharmacy community.
In addition to these tributes, an appreciation award was presented to Prof. Chukwuemeka Michael Ubaka, the keynote speaker of the conference, for his thought-provoking and inspiring keynote address.
Pharm. Ambrose Igwekamma Ezeh, National Chairman of ACPN, reflected on the significance of the awards, stating, "Tonight, we honor individuals who have shaped the landscape of pharmacy in Nigeria. Their legacies inspire us to strive for excellence and innovation as we navigate the future of our profession."
The awards served not only as recognition of past achievements but also as a call to current and future pharmacists to uphold the values of dedication and impact within the community. The ACPN remains committed to celebrating those who have paved the way, ensuring that their contributions to healthcare and pharmacy will never be forgotten.
