The National Identity Management Commission’s extortion and unofficial charges have dropped by 40 percent.
The Director General of NIMC, Abisoye Coker-Odusote, disclosed this on Friday at an event in Lagos.
She attributed the drop to improved transparency in fee structure at the commission.
According to her, National Identification Number registration remained free nationwide as enrolment reached 122 million in June from 120 million in May 2025.
Meanwhile, Coker-Odusote noted that the commission has put in place standard fees for various services such as Date of Birth Modification and others.
“Enrolment for the National Identification Number remains free. We have standardised modification and authentication fees, and these are publicly disclosed.
“Our enforcement of a transparent fee structure has resulted in a 40 percent drop in extortion and unofficial charges,” she stated.
Recall that NIMC announced that its NIN enrolment reached 120 million and explained why it increased service prices.
