Dr Teresa Pounds makes list of 9 West Africans inducted as Fellow of West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists

The immediate past President of the Nigerian Association of Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Scientists in the Americas, Dr. Teresa Pounds, has been inducted as a Fellow of West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists. She is also the Founder of the West African Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (WASPEN), an organisation committed to the advancement and improvement of nutritional care in West Africa.

The induction held today at the 36th Annual General Meeting, Scientific Symposium and 66th Council Meeting of the West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists held at Kairaba Hotel, the Gambia. The event which started from Monday, 15th will last till Friday, 19th April 2024 under the theme “Medicine Safety”.

The President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), Pharm. Prof. Cyril Usifoh FPSN, who is also a Fellow of West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists, is among the dignitaries at the ongoing event at the Gambia.

Dr. Teresa Pounds was elected and inducted alongside the Former Director of National Pharmaceutical Services and currently the Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, the Gambia, Mr. Babanding Sabally; Director General of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration Control (NAFDAC), Prof Christianah Adeyeye; the Director General, Nigerian Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development, Dr. Obi Adigwe; and former Director General of Standard Organisation of Nigeria, Pharm Farouk Salim.

West African Postgraduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) was established in 1991 under the educational mandate of West African Pharmaceutical Federation (WAPF) to advance the knowledge and skills of practicing pharmacists through postgraduate education and training, among others. Its vision is to be internationally recognized as a centre of excellence that promotes the teaching, research, and training in postgraduate pharmacy education for the development of pharmacy specialists to meet the challenges of health care.

Among the many awards and honours of Dr. Teresa Pounds includes, Fellow of Nigerian Academy of Pharmacy (FNAPharm), Chairperson of the Nigerian Pharmacist and Pharmaceutical Scientist Association (NAPPSA) and Member of ASPEN (American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition). Pounds is dedicated to developing clinical pharmacy training programs both locally and internationally.
