Chrisland University appoints Badejo as first professor

Chrisland University, Abeokuta has appointed Babafemi Badejo, a Professor of Political Science and International Relations as the first Professor of the institution.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. (Mrs) Chinedum Peace Babalola, made announcement at the 6th matriculation ceremony of the institution.

Prof. Babalola stated that Badejo was made the first professor of the institution after his publications were thoroughly assessed by national and international experts.   

 The appointment made him the first Professor to be appointed in the Institution since its creation in 2015.

Babafemi Badejo has a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1982 and Bachelors in Law from the University of Lagos, Nigeria in January 1990.

He later became an Attorney in December 1990 after attending the Nigerian Law School.

For almost two and a half decades, he served the United Nations in Somalia, Kenya, Liberia, Guinea-Bissau and Sudan as Chief of complex UN Peace Operations; Deputy Special Representatives of the UN Secretary-General at the UN Political Office for Somalia and Head of Political Affairs in many countries.

Dr. Badejo’s expertise in policy-making, development and planning has enhanced his relevance in conflict resolution and management, security issues and economic development planning.

He withdrew his services from University of Lagos in 1996 where he was Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Science, to work with the United Nations and African Union and as at the time of his withdrawal met with the Vice-Chancellor of Chrisland University, Prof. Babalola, FAS, in September 2020 and indicated that he would like to return to academia after 27years of working in International organizations.

According to Vice Chancellor, “Badejo is bringing in his expertise to Chrisland University and will be setting up the Chrisland Institute for Security, Development and Diplomacy (CISDD), which will be the first of its kind in West Africa.”

She added that Prof Badejo’s pedigree will bring to Chrisland University “an international space because of his experiences and the places he had worked.”
