The U.S President Joe Biden has used his first day in office to issue some executive orders undoing some of former President Donald Trump’s policies on climate change and immigration.

On his first day in office, the President had ordered the removal of U.S travel restrictions that his predecessor Donald Trump had placed on Nigeria and some other countries like Eritrea, Yemen, Sudan and others.

Biden, before signing the executive orders in the White House, said “There’s no time to waste.”

“These are just all starting points,” he added.

The American Civil Liberties Union, a non-profit civil rights organisation, has applauded the move by Biden, calling the travel ban policy a “cruel Muslim ban that targeted Africans.”

President Biden has also described the policy as “discriminatory and an affront to the country’s values.”

It was disclosed that Biden has sent a bill to Congress to address the country’s immigration system.

The legislation aims to provide pathways to US citizenship for undocumented people, address the causes of migration and speed up the reunification of families after children were separated from parents at the US border with Mexico
