The Chief Clinical Audiologist at BSA Center for Hearing and Speech, Ikeja, Lagos Sate, Dr. Simeon O Afolabi has posited that high rate of human hearing loss is attributed to the inexperience of parental care after child birth.

Dr. Simeon during an interview with CEOAFRICA maintained that the number of individuals with hearing loss is on the increase, adding that such individuals need medical attention before it gets out of hand.

“We have committed ourselves with those ones that have hearing loss with the little we can do,” he said.

Furthermore, the audiologist stated that hearing loss is a common birth defect, most especially hearing impairment in infancy which is associated with adverse and permanent defects in speech and language development, and social and emotional development in children.

According to him, some of the hearing challenges faced by individuals can be corrected at their early stage. However, Dr. Simeon charges parents to always look after their children’s health status and as well frequently use the hospitals or medical centers for regular checkups.
