Oyo New Police Commissioner, Chuks Enwonwu urges officers to "respect human rights"

The new Commissioner of Police in Oyo state, CP. Nwachukwu Enwonwu has urged Officers of the Oyo state police command to give due respect to the Fundamental Human Rights of the people.

The new commissioner, Enwonwu made this known while delivering his speech during the handing - over ceremony held at the Oyo state Police command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan on Monday.

Enwonwu buttressed that the dignity for the Fundamental human right is a compulsory act for the police as contained in section 32 - 45 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended).

He further enjoins Police Officers in his jurisdiction to go to their various divisions to maintain high level of discipline, sit up and maintain good tempo of performance and give their utmost cooperation.

"Officers should give cooperation as it was given to the outgoing Commissioner of Police, CP. Shina Olukolu.

Short standard of duties will not be accommodated. We should join hands and bring Crime rate in Oyo state to the minimum rate.

I equally want to commend the outgoing CP. Shina Olukolu for the great job he has done.

Officers! Go to your various divisions and maintain high level of discipline, as Discipline is a core value of the Nigerian police" he said.

Enwonwu further assured the people of Oyo state the continuous rendering of quality service, urging them to be law abiding and and to made available credible information to the police to aid them in performing their constitutional responsibilites.

He noted that only a crime free environment will enable masses to go out for their day-to-day activities, and woo foreign investors to invest their businesses in the state.

Enwonwu however extend his sincere gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, IGP. Muhammed Adamu for giving him the opportunity to serve at the capacity and giving the force the stern order to control crime to the nearest minimum.

The outgoing Oyo State commissioner of Police, CP. Shina Tairu Olukolu in his address advised the new commissioner to embrace the open door policy in his administration.

Olukolu added that he will never forget the officers and the people of Oyo state as he's not going out of the police but moving on to serve at another capacity.

Meanwhile, the outgoing Commissioner, CP. Shina Tairu Olukolu has been redeployed to serve at the Anti-Fraud Unit (FCID Annex) in Lagos.
