2019: Oyo NSCDC Commandant lists achievements

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, Commandant Iskilu Abiodun Akinsanya has given a score card of his command achievements for the year 2019.

Akinsanya made this known at the Agodi headquarters of NSCDC in Ibadan in an exclusive interview with CEOAFRICA on the19th December, 2019.

According to him, the major work of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) includes; assisting in the maintenance of peace and order, protection and rescuing of the Civil population during the period of emergency,  registration of private guard companies, maintaining  twenty-four hour surveillance over infrastructures, sites and projects for the Federal , State and Local Government,

NSCDC Commandant further said that they have power to arrest with or without a warrant , detain , investigate and institute legal proceedings by or in the name of the Attorney-General of the Federation in accordance with the provisions of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria against any person who is reasonably suspected to have committed an offence, etc.

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ensure that citizens are protected from disasters. Those people living in unsafe areas are safe guiding from likely dangers.

Speaking on the2019 achievements by the NSCDC Oyo state Command, Akinsanya disclosed that the unit was able to get approval for two new private guard companies, and have registered one hundred and twenty seven (127) companies.

NSCDC boss further said that the command generated the sum of Six million four hundred and seventy thousand naira only (N6.47m) as revenue generated to date.

He expressed satisfaction with the level of achievement in the course of the year under review, the unit has not experienced any vandalism this year due to 24/7 monitoring of NNPC facilities across the state,The command has a strong synergy between the corps and all the stakeholders in the state which has enhance the discharge of our duties.

Abiodun disclosed that the command recorded success in disaster management as thousands of lives and properties have been saved in about 700 ghastly road accidents. This was achieved through the prompt response of our officers and men whenever there is any distress call. Our ambulances are always on standby in strategic places.

The commandant revealed thatNSCDC Oyo state command has resolved 141, 120 casesreported Under peace and conflict resolution unit and recovered total amount of 4 million Naira. The  legal unit have seven (7) pending cases at the federal high court of Nigeria . he said.

 In order to avoid reckless use of firearms, our personnel always go for retraining every 4 mouths.

The commandant revealed that over one hundred and thirty (130) cases have been treated in the course of the year ranging from; Rape, sexual assault, human trafficking, domestic violence, unlawful custody, child neglect, attempted kidnapping/ unsound mind.

Iskilu further said that most of the senior officers were promoted in the course of the year and some of the intermediate and junior officers also benefitted in the promotion exercise.

Oyo NSCDC commandant also enumerated the challenges facing the command such as funds for other logistics, mobility to enable them move to other parts of the state among others and commended the efforts of the Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi  Makinde who came to the rescue with  vehicles that is being used for easy movement, saying that they have been partnering with Police  and other security agency in fighting crime in the state and its environs.

He therefore called on other philanthropist for their assistance and partnership with the command.

Abiodun however assured the good people of Oyo state of the command readiness to safeguard the lives and property of people in the state, adding that his men are working round the clock towards ensuring that Oyo State remains a peaceful state.  He said members of the public can reach the command response units on the following numbers 09070493188 or 0905553303.
