The chairman, Nigerian Legion, Oyo State command, Mr Michael Fajinmi has on Wednesday commended the efforts of the federal government, Oyo state governor, Oluseyi Makinde, the Armed Forces and the Nigerian Police over their roles in curbing and addressing the issues of insecurity in the country.

Mr Fajinmi who made the commendation in an exclusive interview with CEOAfrica in Ibadan described their performances as great and marvellous one.

The retired personnel of the Nigeran army described the governor’s efforts in donating 100 vehicles for the state police as assurance of serious determination towards effective security coverage in the state,

He said “I will want to appreciate the state governor, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde for taking such step; it’s an assurance of a serious determination to see that the people of Oyo state are purely secured, he did this so that the security coverage of the state will be very effective. Infact, he did so marvellous, I appreciate him for that step, he’s one among hundred.”

He, however, said he will be requesting for his organisation vehicle to cushion its security vehicle in the upcoming 2020-armed forces Remembrance Day.

“Even as we are preparing for our 2020-armed forces Remembrance Day, I am already preparing my speech where I will be requesting for our vehicle that will cushion our security job.”

The chairman who also praised the commissioner of police, Oyo state command, CP Shina Olukolu for his tireless efforts in his fight to curb insecurity in the state said he is convinced they are making great efforts in eradicating the state problems.

On his assessment on the army chief of staff, Gen.Tukur Yusuf Buratai, he stated that the general is trying his best and without mincing words he got serious pass mark from him because he’s performing creditably well.

To my own candid assessment, I am of the opinion that very soon, infact, sooner than later, the war of insecurity will be eradicated, we are winning the war, the government are trying, the military and the parastatals are all putting in their best, if you see the percentage of crime or insecurity issues in Nigeria as of today, its far lower than how it was in 3-4 months or even last year. We are winning the war against insecurity.”

While speaking on the cause of celebration for the 2020-armed forces Remembrance Day, the chairman explained that the period is a sober reflection where fallen heroes were remembered and serving members were appreciated.

“it’s a sober reflection period, whereby annually we do remember our fallen heroes that have participated in the 1st and 2nd world war, Nigerian civil war, even all other  killing of solders, this is when we remember them and we see what we can do to assist the widows left behind, the incapacitated ones, the aged ones and then their children.”

“This is the time we move out with the government to see how we can assist these people to  have a meaningful life and also encouraged the serving ones for their effort to the father land.

The Legion chairman who commended the Nigeria army for putting in efforts to secure the country from both internal and external aggression charged the serving soldiers to be very courageous, truthful in their services to the nation, always maintain proper discipline and have endurance in their line of work.

Speaking on the state legion partnership with government to curb insecurity faced in the state, the ex-serviceman said “Already, we are playing our own role in collaborating with the state government especially in curbing insecurity, for example, we are being employed as security personnel for the state, we have our men at the secretariat, government parastatals, government gave us this assignment and by the grace of God we are quipping up in the security of the area.”

“Also we have some individuals as our clients, we have ministries, corporate like churches, industries engaging our men on security duty, infact, our security duty is not restricted to only Oyo state, it gets to other states even in Abuja and Lagos. These are the areas where we are contributing to the security of the state and nation at large.”

The ex-servicemen who had spent 2 years in office said on his assumption of office the organization has made series of empowerment programmes to disabled personnel’s, widows and children of the fallen heroes, and the aged one throughout the 33 local government of the state, in cash and kinds, training which is the empowerment program acquisition training.

Mr Fajinmi urged all Nigerians to be truthful to each other, have mind of unity and let the spirit of love reigns in this yuletide season.

“We Nigerians should be truthful to ourselves and have mind of unity, there’s no way even if you are biological siblings that there won’t be rancour, but we should always disagree to agree on issues, let’s not make it a do or die affairs, whereby I stand on my hard-line position and you stand on your hard-line position, where you will not shift at all considering other people’s idea, let the spirit of love reigns in us and we should love and trust each other as brothers and sisters, as people of one Nigeria.” he added.
