KAMPALA, Uganda -                       Uganda Airlines on Saturday got an Air Operator Certificate (AOC), for their commercial purposes, the country’s ‘New Vision’ reports

An AOC is an approval granted by a country’s aviation authority to an aircraft operator to allow it to use aircraft for commercial purposes.

This requires the operator to have personnel, assets, and system in place to ensure safety of its employees and the general public.

The newspaper further states that the certificate will list the aircraft types and registrations to be used, for what purpose and in what area-specific airports or geographic region.

“There is no news as great as hearing this! Long way you have come Uganda Airlines and you are almost there, that is the beauty in it all. We cannot wait to fly the crane,” Uganda Airlines revealed in a tweet.

In April, Uganda received two Bombardier planes as part of the fleet that is expected to form the core of efforts to revive the national carrier.

Another two airbuses are expected to be delivered within the next two years as Uganda once again claims its place as one of the countries with a national carrier.

At the ceremony to receive the two planes, President Yoweri Museveni assured the country that the national carrier will not collapse again.

Museveni revealed that the structural and administrative deficiencies that occasioned the collapse of the national carrier two decades ago will not recur.
