The Vice Chancellor of Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Professor Chinedum Peace Babalola has declared opened a 2-Day intensive conference, themed: ‘’Hands - On Practical Training on Molecular Biology’’ at the Biochemistry Laboratory Complex of the institution.

The 2-Day conference which kick-started from 15th – 16th July, 2019 was presented by the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Ogun State branch in partnership with the Chrisland University.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Babalola said ‘’Molecular biology forms the basis of disease diagnosis as well as drug treatment. As a Pharmacist and researcher, I research into pharmacogenetics which looks at genetic differences in drug disposition. We individuals are genetically different and so can manifest differences in disease prognosis and the way we react to drugs. One dose does not fit all’’.

‘’ My team and I reported the first ever full pharmacogenetics study on Nigerians and carried out a large population study on genetics of hypersensitivity of sulphonamides’’ she said.

While welcoming the AMLSN to Chrisland University, she said ‘’We will be willing to partner with you as we plans to introduce Medical Laboratory Science as one of our programmes in the next session’’.

The VC further said ‘’As a lifelong learner, I am willing to learn more from you at this conference and wish I can be with you to learn more’’.

She however, lauded the Dean of Science and HOD Microbiology, Prof. Mrs. Akintokun for planning and coordinating the training workshop on the management behalf.

The 2-Day workshop featured lectures on the general principles and hands-on training to include: Nucleic Acid (DNA and RNA) Extraction from biological materials; Polymerase Chain Reaction; Gel Electrophoresis and Interpretation; Sample Preparation for Sequencing and Introductory Bioinformatics.

Targeted audience at the conference includes; Medical Laboratory Scientists; Lecturers of Basic Medical Veterinary and Biological Sciences; Researchers and Pathologists and residents in pathology interested in sciences.
