Bayelsa state Governor, Seriake Dickson has given approval to the full employment of 838 casual workers in all the Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) into the civil service of the state.

Recalled the governor earlier in 2019 also approved the employment of 1,000 first class graduates and medical practitioners into the civil service.

Daniel Iworiso-Markson, the state’s commissioner for information, told newsmen on Thursday, June 20, after the state executive meeting, that the governor gave the approval and banned casualization in the civil service.

He said the governor’s gesture was a profound one as most of the beneficiaries had spent between 15 to 20 years as casual workers.

The commissioner, however, said that the casual workers would be screened before the confirmation of their appointment which would take effect from Monday, July 1.

In the same vein, the chairman of the Bayelsa State Civil Service Commission, Peter Singabele, said the governor’s approval would in a long way address the issue of unemployment in the state.

Singabele also added that the appointees would have to present all necessary qualification documents during their screening exercise.

He mentioned that the public service rule now stipulates that any applicant must not be above 40 years.
