A high court sitting in Kano has overruled the kingmakers’ quest to stop new emirs.

Justice Ahmed Tijani Gbadamasi of court on Friday, June 14, ruled against the application filed by Kano kingmakers.

The court had earlier granted the order of the applicants directing the Kano state government, speaker house of assembly and six other defendants to maintain status quo until the determination of the substantive suit.

Kano state government inaugurated the new emirate councils with first-class status following the passage and assent of appointment and deposition of emirate council law 2019, by the state house of assembly.

Recalled, the new Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, on Wednesday, May 15, explained why he accepted the appointment to become an emir.

While speaking with newsmen at a press conference, Bayero said he accepted to become the traditional ruler of Bichi because time changes things. The new emir said that from 1963 when his late father became the emir of Kano till now, a whole lot of changes have happened and would continue to change.

Bayero also talked on his relationship with the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, saying they have mutual respect for each other and that his appointment will not offend him.

He had said: “Sanusi is my brother, he has respect for me and I have respect for him. I am from the royal family.

“When he was appointed emir, I was among the first set of people that paid homage to him and I gave him my support and I will continue to support him,” he added.
